〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Ryan Goldsmith
CHARACTER AGE: ~21
SERIES: Tiger & Bunny
CHRONOLOGY: At the end of the second movie, after accepting a new contract with another employer and leaving Stern Bild.
CLASS: BEST HERO!!
HOUSING: Oh Lord give him a roomie. I'm sorry future roomie!

BACKGROUND: Tiger & Bunny takes place in a retro-modern city called Stern Bild where super heroes aren't just part and parcel of everyday life, they are sponsored by real life companies and compete on prime time television. (The creators were inspired by several Western super heroes, like Iron Man and Batman, and their influence can be seen in the designs of the Hero costumes and some of the settings).

The city itself is inspired by and modeled after Manhattan. There are elements of German, American, and Japanese influence among the construction, architecture, and social structure of the city as well. One deviation from its Manhattan design is the three-tiered construction. These tiers, or Stages, are divided by social class: Bronze Stage (lower class), Silver Stage (middle class), Gold Stage (upper class). Each tier is stacked on top of the other and anchored together with public tramways.

Like today, there are iPhones, laptops, and all other kinds of stream-lined technology; however, much of the clothing styles, architecture, and technological designs are based on 1970s trends, so it is a blend of anachronistic elements.

The city's most popular source of entertainment is the reality television show, Hero TV Live. People with extraordinary powers are recruited, given an alias and a costume, and sent out to keep Stern Bild safe. These company-sponsored Heroes compete to capture criminals and save civilians in order to rack up points and be voted King of Heroes for the season. While the daily challenges are real, much of the Heroes' actions are heavily influenced by the companies and corporations that sponsor them. They are the face of that corporation or sponsor and must act accordingly to promote their ideals.

Ryan is one such who has traveled all over the world as something of a Hero for hire. He is contracted by Apollon Media's new CEO, Mr. Schneider, to partner up with Barnaby Brooks Jr., a former top biller who fell to second-tier with his aging partner Kotetsu, in order to boost sales.

Together with the other Heroes, they thwart a nefarious plot that commences on Justice Day, an important commemoration in Stern Bild history. Kotetsu and Barnaby re-partner to defeat the villain, and Ryan steps down as Barnaby's partner so that Barnaby and Kotetsu can start again.

Despite their short-lived partnership, it was a pivotal moment in his life and his career path. Barnaby is the first person he has felt was equal to him and deserved his respect. With this new outlook on life and the potential to meet more interesting people like Barnaby, he leaves Apollon Media shortly after with a new and broader perspective than he started.

FACTIONS/COMPANIES

NEXT: 45 years before the start of the series, an unidentified genetic mutation cropped up among certain citizens of Stern Bild, giving them unnatural powers like the manipulation of fire, ice, the ability to fly, etc. They dubbed these mutants NEXT: Noted Entities of Extraordinary Talent. These NEXT were discriminated against within society. Ostracized and oppressed, an upcoming television producer named Albert Maverick created a new television program using NEXT in order to promote their integration into society.

Hero TV Live: A reality television show that follows the exploits of Heroes as they fight crime and save the innocent all for the sake of ratings! The job of a Hero has shifted over the course of the show's history. Originally, the Heroes were filmed saving the city in order to get normal citizens to sympathize and accept NEXT. These days, it has become more of business, looking to boost ratings and drag out the drama and excitement. Almost all Heroes have accepted this aspect of the job except for Kotetsu who stubbornly takes no part in being flashy for the audience. he simply wants to do his job as quickly as possible, which generally leads to a lot of crushed property around Stern Bild.

Apollon Media: The new company that sponsors Barnaby and Kotetsu. Albert Maverick is also the CEO of the company, as well as the creator of the show Hero TV Live. Later, Maverick is replaced with Schneider as the new CEO and hires Ryan to boost sales.

Ouroboros: A mysterious crime syndicate that has taken root in almost every aspect of Stern Bild's infrastructure. Little is known about them except that they are responsible for the death of Barnaby's parents and much of the mayhem that the Heroes try to thwart.

Vigilante: What's a super hero series without some people thinking they are above the rules and the law? One such NEXT is Lunatic. Believing in his own brand of justice (aka killing criminals instead of just, you know, locking them up), Lunatic has been known to thwart Wild Tiger and Barnaby's hard work. This has led the public to wonder about the effectiveness of Heroes when Lunatic can easily kill offenders and slip out of reach of authorities and Heroes alike.

PERSONALITY: Ryan is not a complicated character and can be easily explained as a Grade A douchebro with a good heart. Sounds a little oxymoronic, but bear with me here. Ryan’s personality is is an open, transparent one and symbolized well in the very clothing he wears. He wears gold glittering shirts, gold bracelets and other gaudy jewelry. The gold represents a king, and that is exactly what Ryan is. He is big and commanding, parodying the sun. All other bodies orbit his immense gravitas and magnetism, literally and figuratively. This is rather obviously depicted from his catchphrase “Kiss my boots!” that he uses on camera. He even tells Stern Bild reporters during his debut appearance that they will kneel before him, right before he uses his gravitational powers and pushes them to the ground. He is a big presence and expects the world to bend to that immense weight, and it usually does.

But it comes from success in a field that is fast-paced, stressful, and always looking for the better and brighter star. He’s a global name in his world, seen on youtube and other media outlets that continue to build his rather enormous clout. Just in his early twenties, he has amassed a lot of prestige as a Hero and that comes from sharp business senses and the confidence to make a fool out of yourself for the bottom line. Still, it’s hard to look the fool when you have that much confidence, and he does. His Hero suit is a gaudy royal blue and gold monstrosity with a cape. His sense of style is extreme and in your face so you don’t forget his impact.

Despite this grand show of decadence, it does not come from insecurity or a need to compensate. He is awesome, he knows he’s awesome, and so does the world. If you don’t feel the same way, he’ll just find someone who will. No skin off his nose at all. Very little can get under his skin, even if his plans don’t go quite according to plan. In one instance, he tells his partner Barnaby to get back into their transport so they can go fight the bad guy, but Barnaby struggles to comply when his former partner Kotetsu is in danger. After repeated attempts to get him to follow, Ryan simply tells him to do what he wants and continues driving off to face their villain himself. With a job at hand and a non compliant partner, he isn’t going to waste his time seeking the attention of others. He has more important things to do.

His flippant attitude doesn’t stem from vapidness either. As discussed above, he is a very successful business man and not simply because of his awesomeness. He is also very perceptive of others and can easily read people and the situation very well. This is seen a few times when he talks with Barnaby. Barnaby is a very misunderstood character in his canon, as he has several layers to his personality. He has his true self, his business self, and his public face. Despite this, Ryan can easily dissect Barnaby’s true intentions outside what he says and what he doesn’t say. For example, there is a mysterious attacker targeting Stern Bild using the origin story as a metaphor for the attacks. Barnaby has suspicions, and without voicing them or really letting others in on his methods of deduction Ryan makes a point to comment that Barnaby initially suspected him to play a part in the attack that occurs later. He isn’t upset or offended by Barnaby’s silent accusation, simply amused. He also feels that there is a kinship between them when they work together as partners, but he senses that Barnaby changes when he come back into contact with his former partner Kotetsu and that, while Ryan and he work well together, he is no longer the partner before. He calls him a stranger now that he sees the subtle changes in Barnaby’s demeanor around Kotetsu.

Because of this he sees that then Barnaby is more suited to work with Kotetsu and willingly severs their partnership so that Kotetsu and Barnaby can reform, publicly of course. He uses it as a business opportunity to appear beneficent in front of the cameras, and makes damn sure those cameras are on him. While none of his actions have a deeper motive than what appears on the surface, they are still sometimes puzzling in their abruptness. Still, it shows that he is not strictly selfish or superficial in his wants or desires. In the novels it shows how his experience with Barnaby and Kotetsu have sharpened his perception of other people, and shows him that there are people like Barnaby who can be respected and stand on his level. He finds that there are people like Kotetsu, who seem so weak, that can win other’s loyalty and respect even still. The fact that he can grow and is willing to grow shows again that he is not so superficial and childish as he may appear.

POWER: Ryan's powers come from a genetic mutation. These mutants are called NEXT: Noted Entities of Extraordinary Talents. When their powers are activated, their eyes glow blue and they give off a blue aura. Ryan specifically has control over a gravitational force field. Bending over on all fours, he can create this tinted force field all around him like a dome. It stretches several meters in all directions and can be manipulated.

If necessary, he can make it stretch in any direction; however, it retains the same surface area. It can't grow more; it is simply reshaped to fit his needs.

Anything caught in this force field is brought to the ground by immense gravitational pressure. It is unclear how long he can keep the gravitational field up. There does not seem to be a time limit; however, it appears as though he can do nothing else while the field is active.

[ Look! It's this giant asshole! Hang on a second, he's trying to get the angle on his face just right. You need to see most of it, but add some of that shoulder action and the glittering gold. It's a fine line though. The ratio has to be just right--Wait, hold--Ahh, there we go! ]

Yo! It's your resident prince. I've got a question, so listen. Anyone know how to bedazzle shit? I man really rhinestone something with some amazing finesse?

I got my friend here [ Say hello, iguana! ] a collar and it's severely lacking in that certain bling factor, ya know? I don't want much, just her name in big letters! Think it'll catch the camera light real well that way, yeah...

Let me know. Bye.
